If you sell ebooks and EMAIL download links to your customers or have download links on your website, then this simple little PHP script is for you!

The Big Fat Get My File software allows digital download sellers to disguise the actual location of their downloadable files on their web servers. Any name can be given to the subdirectory where the files are stored. This helps prevent data thieves from typing in the name of your domain, i.e. http.//yourdomain.com/downloads/ and having free access to your products without having to pay for them. You could store all your product downloads in a subdirectory called mickeymouse and no one would know where to find them.

Get My File allows you to disguise your download links to hide the real location of your files. For example, your normal download link may be:

http://www.mywebsite.com/downloads/my_file.zip Now, there is nothing to stop a data thief from typing http://www.mywebsite.com/downloads/ in their browser and stealing all your website's files without paying.

But, with Get My File, the download link that you email your customers is disguised and does not reveal the actual location of the file.  It will look something like this:

http://www.mywebsite.com/getmyfile.php?file=my_file.zip .  The link will be disguised and the location of the file will not be revealed!

Also, if a data thief tries to browse your downloads folder, it will show an Access Denied message.

I was impressed with the simplicity of the process. It's really simple to install! The instructions are easy to understand and implement.  The user has to just change one small section of the .php script relating to the download files location and then upload the script to their server. That's it! Simply enter the location of your downloads folder into the .php script and upload it to your web server!

NOTE: This script is NOT an automatic digital download script.

Requirements:

Linux/Unix web server required with PHP 4 or above.  Your web server MUST have support for PHP for the script to work.

If you do not know if your server supports PHP, check with your website host. And, if you dont know how to upload files or how to edit simple text files, you will need to get assistance in setting up this simple script. But, in my opinion, using this script will be well worth it.
